FoldersQuestions?Ordering

Any Questions?

How are my folders produced?

They are produced in the CMYK process (four colour) on a digital printing press.

Why do you only offer one folder option?

We used to offer several variations as some other companies do. We had different size folders, different size pockets, round corned pockets, square corned pockets, deep pockets, narrow pockets etc.
We decided it was getting too complicated and when we asked our clients what they wanted we were told that all they really wanted was a folder with a pocket that would hold their papers in and the size and shape of pocket etc did not really matter as long as the folder “worked”.

So we reduced the options to a standard size folder (435 x 303mm) with two pocket options which were with or without a capacity. This made everything a whole lot easier and for several years this was our standard offering. But then we wanted to make things even easier and more efficient so we asked our customers, if we were to offer a capacity folder for the same price as a non capacity folder, would they prefer the capacity folder? Not surprisingly they did, so now we offer a capacity folder only with a standard pocket which works for everybody.

Why do you offer a finished proof?

Because we want you to know what you are paying for. Many other companies offer a printed proof but it won’t be a finished folder while some will only offer you a PDF proof.

While we don’t insist that you see a proof we do highly recommend it as we want you to be happy with the finished product. Unfortunately depending on the age of your computer screen, your software programme, the colours that you have specified and various other factors, the colours may vary between the file you supply, which you have seen on your screen, and the finished product. For example, certain colours such as orange do not produce well out of the four colour process. There is no way around it but we would like you to see this before the boxes arrive on your doorstep!

The colour variation is not because our equipment or systems are faulty but it is a fact of print life that what you see on screen is very often not how the finished product will look. We care about this and this is what makes us different from other companies as many other companies operate (by the very nature of their production procedures) a “you get what you get” policy and as they have already had your money it is not their problem.

How do I sign off a proof?

You will be sent a proof sign off consent form with your proof which we ask you to complete and fax back to us. Alternatively if you don’t have a fax then you can scan it and send it electronically.
If you don’t have a scanner then an email will suffice.

What if I don’t like the proof and want to submit another file?

Our price includes one finished proof. If you need to resubmit another file this is possible but there will be a £25.00 charge for doing so.

Tell me about your handholding service and is there a charge?

It depends what we have to do. If your file has been supplied incorrectly but all we have to do is to tweak it then we will do so without charge and will advise you for next time so you can do it yourself. If we have to spend time working on your file so it will print then we will advise you what you need to do, to give you the option of doing it yourself, or charge you a handholding fee of £35.00. Whatever happens we will do nothing without advising you of the charges first.

There will inevitably be a charge if Microsoft Publisher or Words files are supplied. As non professional make up programmes we will need to recreate them in a suitable software programme. This also applies to Photoshop Files which are the raw images but they need to be placed in either Quark or Indesign for printing.

Why do your folders come fully assembled?

Many of our competitors supply their folders with interlocking pockets which is a cheap way to produce them. The reason it is cheap is that it is a cheap method of production and they are not as strong as a glued pocket. Our folders come to you fully made up so all you need to do is to take them out of the box.

Yes, but don’t you save space with interlocking pockets as they come flat packed.

Not really as they still need to be stored and of course the beauty of digital printing is that you order what you need, so storage should not be a problem, as you can order the correct amount in the first place.

How can you do it so quickly? 72 hours seems very fast compared to others.

Most other companies have far longer production times than us – many will quote between 5-12 days depending on how they produce them -the litho only companies tend to have the longest delivery times.

We can do it so quickly because our one folder policy means that we are totally set up for this one product so there is no time wasted setting up production machinery for different size folders, pockets etc.

How quickly will the proof be sent to me?

If we get the file before noon we will dispatch it the same day via first class post. You need to allow a day or so for the proof to reach you but once approved we will dispatch your order no later than three days after approval. If you want to speed the proof up we can arrange for special delivery at an extra cost of £7.50.

Why would I need a 5mm capacity folder and why is it the same cost as a non capacity?

A 5mm capacity folder will allow you to hold far more sheets of paper than a non capacity folder and other items such as a booklet etc. Experience has shown clients very often underestimate how much will be going into the folder as often, for example, a seminar
may have papers from several sources which may be unknown at the time of order.

From our point of view the cost for us to produce a capacity folder is only slightly more than a non capacity folder but the efficiencies that we gain make up the difference.

Some of your competitors include delivery but you don’t. Why not?

In real terms there is no such thing as free delivery as it has to be paid for somewhere, which is either in the price of the order or as an extra. Many of our clients collect their orders so we treat delivery as an extra charge. It is a non profit service that we offer as collection is not always possible.
